It should still show the restart prompt, but at least be using the older agent and finish the upgrade on restart. So say the agent got updated on a friday at 6:00pm after everyone has left the office, the computer basically has no virus protection till i come in monday and see the prompt to restart my computer. When the agent is updating /gets updated acitve protection turns itself off.

It's come to the point that when i setup a new laptop for a safety technician i go to Vipre's website and download the definitions before hand so that after i install it i can can to the command line and apply the update, because if i left it to grab it from the central server i would be there for a while.Īnother thing i didn't like which is similar to the first is when the agent (not definitions) gets updated.

I've even tried running the command line options to force the update and that still takes forever. When it is updating active protection turns it's off, so while it's taking forever you are unprotected. I have to go to the program folder and watch the definitions folder to see when the files are been copied and most of the times i'm just watching before it comes alive. There is no screen showing you there is an update and that it's currently downloading or extract or installing, but i do know there is an update because the shield in the system tray has turned grey, so i know active protection is off. Yes the Vipre Enterprise Console pushes out definitions, but it seems to take forrrevvveerrrr. One of them is the definitions updating feature. But i have other things i even came across that i don't like. Ok so maybe this is a fluke that i got the one model that doesn't seem to play nice with vipre, after all i don't have that problem with the in office dells. It's been since october last year at least, i don't feel like diggin through e-mail right now. They tried it on the machine, still didn't fix it. I contacted them 2 weeks ago since the new agent was in beta.

After looking at it they still couldn't figure it out, but they saw it wouldn't crash or lockup if "Scan for rootkits" was turned off.Of course that is unacceptable but they said they would figure it out soon, and for my trouble they extended our license for another year for free (we had purchased 200). After talking with support they couldn't figure it out after i sent them the logs etc, so i decided to mail them one of the laptops. Upon setting them up with vipre, i would run a deep scan to test the speed and see it in action and the machines would bluescreen or lockup. We had purchase about 100 Dell Vostro 3500s for these guys. In my company most of the machines are laptops that are giving out to safety techs that go on oil rigs and various pipeline projects. With VIpre it seem to me like it needs to be polished some more. However i have not tried out their enterprise solutions.

After a year, i wished i had gone with Nod32, it's what i use at home and really is one of the best security/malware software i've used. We used several GFI products and were very satisfied with them, so when we saw they were purchasing VIpre we knew we could stand on that reputation. We switched to Vipre from Trend Micro about a year ago, after looking at various products. We paid 28$CDN per seat for 3 years, which is less than 10$/year servers included and we could install antivirus on other devices such as Linux or PDA if we wanted to, it's all inclusive. We bought 150 licences (PCworkstations, MAC computers & Windows Servers all included). In march we switched over to Kaspersky Enterprise security are we are happy with it. We were eligible to upgrade to Endpoint Protection but due to the size of the project and price of license renewal, we decided not to. Again we were not satisfied but mostly in regards to the detection rate of malwares. The company I work at right now had Symantec Corporate Antivirus until march 2011. It did not matter too much as we began to swich over to Terminal Services. We had a fleet of old PC so we had a performance hit. We had a few problems at that time mainly due to the kaspersky antivirus version that was available, a newer release fixed most of our issues.
In 2006 we switched to Kaspersky business optimal (windows workstations, windows servers, exchange server). At that time, we had trouble centrally managing the workstations and we had several malware/viruses on our systems. The place I used to work had AVG up to 2006.
